Denebola Emerald x Fursdon Midnight Monsoon CDex, UDex
Callie was mated to Janets Drewery's Flynn who is a super, strong looking boy who works a full shooting season and has a fabulous temperament. He has excellent working ability and we liked him from the very first day we met him – he also has one of those lovely kind faces!
Callie had a very smooth pregnancy, taking it all in her stride as we expected. Her first scan showed five puppies, the second confirming at least that number. She was due during Alec’s week of night shifts and started digging furiously three days before she whelped. She waited until very early on the Saturday morning to deliver her first puppy – just as Alec walked through the door! She had a litter of six healthy puppies on April 17 2004, born over a four-hour period. She produced five boys and only one girl ~ who had been promised to a working trial home long before conception! There was a giant pup who we immediately christened Hercules and he weighed in at 1lb 5oz.
Callie was a devoted Mum – she welcomed every visitor and seemed to rear her litter ‘just like that,’ and we never underestimated just how lucky we were.
A couple of days after the puppies were born, we received a telephone call from Simon Blythe from Guide Dogs for the Blind and a very exciting opportunity started to grow, not only for us but also for the longhaired weimaraner in general.
The puppies grew nicely and were exposed to many socialising experiences including the ‘Early Neurological Stimulation’ programme.
We had super homes lined up for the pups. Ace & Abe went to start their training with puppy walkers from the GDBA, Etta the only bitch in the litter went off to be trained for working trials and Murphy & Fergus to pet homes. We were left with Gunner, a lovely pup but nobody was quite right for him. Eventually, he sailed off to Guernsey with his new owners and was renamed Webster.
Etta ~ Callisae Mytee Majestic, owned by June & David Cutler ~ did start a working trials career and has achieved a CDEx and UDex, following in the footsteps of her mum and several generations before!
