Callie was just one of those dream dogs to own and my thanks must go to Theresa & Gary Clinick for breeding her and allowing me to have her back in the summer of 2000.

Callie just came home and settled in, taking life and everything thrown at her, in her stride – even her 5 hour journey home from Cornwall. Ava accepted her without a hitch and she was easy and biddable to train.

I had already planned she would compete in working trials and whilst we had a few hitches on the way, she was always a very honest dog and gave her best. She tracked beautifully with steadiness and accuracy and her control work, whilst never particularly flashy became very reliable. Sadly Callie developed an issue with jumping the scale and I retired her from full competition in 2006. After referral to a vet specialising in orthopaedic surgery, she was diagnosed with a shoulder problem – so a wise move to retire her from jumping!

With such a fabulous temperament Callie passed her assessment to become a Pets As Therapy dog easily and we commenced our visits to a nursing home and my junior school where she was always a hit! She also represented the WCGB at Discover Dogs at Crufts and has taken part in the Gundog parade at an occasional game fair.

We thought very seriously about breeding from Callie and after discussion with knowledgeable longhaired owners, went ahead with the necessary health tests. Callie’s hipscore was 3:3 and she had a clear eye certifcate, so after much deliberation we mated her to Janet Drewery’s Flynn – Denebola Emerald and she became our foundation bitch.

Callie produced two lovely healthy litters of longhaired puppies who are all doing well in their homes, spread far and wide from Australia to Canada to Guernsey!

Callie spent her post trialling days seriously squirrel hunting, cuddling anybody who would fuss her, lounging on the sofa and keeping her hand in with tracking and searching at the odd veteran trial. She is greatly missed.
